What the Bible Says About Modesty (and Why Shopping for It is So Hard!)

If you’ve been back-to-school shopping lately, you know, finding modest clothes for girls is NOT easy.

My daughter goes to a Christian school, and every year it feels like the shorts get shorter, the shirts get tighter, and the options for modest, age-appropriate clothing practically disappear.

And yet, modesty is still something God calls us to live out.

What the Bible Says About Modesty

In 1 Timothy 2:9, Paul writes:
"Women are to adorn themselves with respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control…"

Modesty isn’t about shame—it’s about honoring God and reflecting Him in how we present ourselves. **It’s about humility, wisdom, and teaching our daughters that their worth isn’t found in trends or approval, but in Christ.

When I talk to my daughter about modesty, I remind her that it’s not just about the clothes she wears. It’s about her heart. We want our outward appearance to reflect the beauty of a heart that loves God (1 Peter 3:3–4).

But here’s the truth: finding clothes that actually fit this standard is hard—even for young girls! Between short inseams, cropped tops, and form-fitting styles, we’ve had to really get creative.

After a lot of searching, here’s what I discovered, The Children's Place has an excellent collection of modest clothing that is cute and great quality. And if you keep a look out for them on Amazon, they seem to have random sales that are really worth the time searching.
