EXAMPLE: Observation Notes

EXAMPLE: Observation Notes

Remember, the first part of Inductive Bible Study is observation. This is when you ask yourself,

"What does this say?"

Try not to overthink this part. Just write notes on the main points that you are reading. I tend to write more than necessary, so you do what works for you! Look at the details and take notes on what stands out the most. It really is that simple! And hey, your notes do not have to look like mine!

This is just an example of one way that you can take notes. I like to make lists when I can as I feel that this is the easiest way to take observation notes in a letter book. For instructions on how to do this click here.

Prompt Box #1a-Cling to God:

In my example, I made a list of:

  • The names of God

  • What is mentioned about God

Prompt Box #1b-Construct the Main Ideas

For instructions on how to do this click here.

In my example, I made a list of:

  • What is mentioned about Paul (the author)

  • What is mentioned about the believers (the original readers in the Churches in Galatia)

  • What is mentioned about the gospel (I choose this because it was mentioned so many times and is a key reason for the letter- they were losing track of the true gospel)

  • I also made a simple list of Paul's activities and locations that he mentioned (I made it into a mini timeline list)

I got a little creative with my notes, but you do not have to. If you are interested in taking my Creative Note-taking Workshop you can check it out by clicking here.

I used the stickers from the Creatives Kit that is included with the study, but they are not necessary.

PLEASE NOTE: Your notes may look different than mine, and that is OKAY!
