WEEK 1: Genesis 1:1-2:3

In the opening of Genesis, God creates the heavens and the earth, bringing forth light, separating day and night, and establishing the sky, land, and seas. God forms the sun, moon, and stars, fills the waters and skies with living creatures, and creates animals and humanity. Man and woman are made in God's image, blessed to be fruitful and have dominion over the earth. God designates the seventh day as a day of rest and sanctifies it. The narrative emphasizes the power and intentionality of God in creating the world and humanity, culminating in the goodness and rest of the seventh day.
