Chapter Fourteen

John 14 is full of comfort and encouragement from Jesus as He prepares His disciples for His departure. He starts by assuring them, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in Me.” Jesus promises to prepare a place for them in His Father’s house, and that He’ll return to take them there. When Thomas asks how they can know the way, Jesus responds, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” Jesus also reassures them that anyone who believes in Him will do even greater things than He has done, because He will ask the Father to send the Holy Spirit, the Helper, to be with them forever. The chapter closes with Jesus offering peace to His disciples, saying, “Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14 is all about Jesus preparing His followers for the future, assuring them that He is the way to God, and promising them the Holy Spirit to guide and comfort them.
