Chapter Nineteen

John 19 details the brutal crucifixion of Jesus and His final moments. After being flogged, Jesus is mocked by Roman soldiers, crowned with thorns, and dressed in a purple robe as they make fun of Him, calling Him "King of the Jews." Pilate presents Jesus to the crowd, hoping they’ll have pity, but they demand His crucifixion. Despite Pilate’s attempts to free Him, the crowd insists, and Jesus is handed over to be crucified. He carries His cross to Golgotha, where He is nailed to the cross between two criminals. As He hangs there, He speaks several important words, including asking God to forgive those who are crucifying Him and telling the disciple John to take care of His mother, Mary. Before He dies, Jesus says, “It is finished,” signifying the completion of His mission. His body is taken down, and a soldier pierces His side to confirm His death. Jesus is buried in a tomb, fulfilling the prophecies about His death and burial. John 19 shows Jesus' immense sacrifice, His obedience to God's will, and the fulfillment of God's plan for salvation through His death on the cross.
