John 20 tells the story of Jesus’ resurrection. Mary Magdalene discovers the empty tomb and tells Peter and John, who find it as she described. Mary encounters the risen Jesus but doesn’t recognize Him until He calls her name. Jesus appears to the disciples, showing them His wounds, giving them peace, and breathing the Holy Spirit on them. Thomas, who wasn’t there, doubts until Jesus appears to him, and Thomas believes. The chapter ends with John explaining that the purpose of this book is to show that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing in Him, we can have eternal life.
